Well, we've been away on a fall vacation. It was absolutely fantastic, and the scenery was more than we could have hoped for. Anyone know where these shots were taken? (And those of you who know where we went are disqualified from "guessing".) ![]() ![]() ![]() And finally, though this tips my hand, I got one for the Zootman. Bob, this is an untouched photo. Does it give you any ideas? --- ![]() Thanks for looking, Steve |

Looks like Rocky Mountain National Park. The photo at 12,000 feet looks like the view from Trail Ridge Road. |

Did you pay the toll up there or did they do away with that. I lived in Aspen (grew up on west slope) and for minute thought of the maroon belle's, but probably not |

Man, you guys have a beautiful country. Ours is pretty too, just a lot warmer and a lot flater. Our "mountains" are little more than a row of hills compared to what you've got. |

Indeed, Barry did nail it. The photo taken at 12,000+ feet was at the Alpine Visitor Center, on Trail Ridge Road, Rocky Mountain National Park. When we arrived at the park, the road was closed above Rainbow Gulch (I think that was the name). The next day, the snow plows had cleared the road, and Trail Ridge was opened the entire length. I was told by a local that we were quite fortunate, and that the re-opening was pretty rare. Stan, I'm not sure what toll you are referring to? There was none on the drive--per se--but a 1 week pass into the park was $20. Goodness, we spent 4 days there, and the drive up Trail Ridge Rd. was worth the cost of admission easily. But it was a white-knuckle experience for sure. That's the highest road we've ever driven, and a lot of it is without guard rails of any kind. And sheer drop-offs abound. I feel glad to be relating the tale in the land of the living. And Don--what gave it away? ![]() Steve |

Steve, Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous road in the U.S. There are higher roads but they only go up a mountain and then you have to turn around and come back the same way. When I was younger and much more foolish I spent a summer on the west side of the park and we would often race over Trail Ridge to get to a party in Estes Park on the other side. I was up there last summer and the memory of those earlier days made me a little neausous. |

Barry, I can understand your feeling, and somewhat sympathize with it. My friend, whose condo we stayed in there at Estes, says the road is even more exciting on a motorcycle. I think I'll just take his word on that one. Steve |
